Renata Track

The team at Elder hut

One of the last remote tracks to be cleared by GWBN volunteers in Tararua was the Renata track.

This track clearing to improve walking access in the forest park has been made possible by a generous funding grant from Trust House Foundation

On 17 February 2025 A team of Jim Hepburn, Alistair Barr, David Lyttle and Derrick Field fly to Aston peak to begin the job. Gear was delivered by Amalgamated Helicopter pilot Bill Rainey, to Elder hut. Over three days, the team cleared as far as Renata trig. Pending bad weather resulted in the team taking a break.

A few days later, Jeremy Collyns, Andrew Bichan, David Lyttle and Derrick Field flew to renata trig to continue cutting the track. Two long days saw the track cleared to the Maymorn Saddle
