Objects of the GWBN

The Objects of the Society are to;

Foster backcountry recreational activities within the Tararua, Aorangi and Remutaka forest parks through supporting the management of the backcountry recreation network including building and maintaining huts, tracks and vehicle access.

Encourage backcountry recreation through promoting recreation opportunities and advocating for safe and appropriate recreation in the forest parks.

Acknowledge the heritage of backcountry recreation in the forest parks including the contribution of clubs.

Work co-operatively with the Department of Conservation to achieve the Objects of The Committee as agreed through a Memorandum of Understanding with the department.

Manage specific huts, tracks or vehicle access in the forest parks as agreed through a Community Agreement with the department

Advise and make recommendations to the Department and the Wellington Conservation Board on all matters relating to backcountry recreation in the forest parks.
