The GWBN began 35 years ago as the Tararua Aorangi Huts Committee (TAHC). Through funding from hut fees income that was passed onto the TAHC by DOC, four major huts were built and clubs were able to fund the upkeep of the many huts in the three forest parks.
We have made good progress and over the last three years, we have put considerable effort into catching up with deferred maintennce of tracks. All huts we look after in good shape also. This is thanks to our keen members who volunteer to help make a difference so forest park users can have an enjoyable experience. Also to the generocity of charitable groups that have provided funding grants to ensure we can get the work done. And also the individuals and clubs that have donated funding to the GWBN.
